Vote for Palestine

Vote for either the Socialist Left Party (SV), the Green Party (MDG) or the Red Party (Rødt) in the general election this autumn. These three parties are the only ones in the Norwegian Parliament that consistently fight for the Palestinian cause.

The most important thing you can do for Palestine right now is to use your vote

Many parties say they support Palestine, but when concrete policies are brought to the parliament, they vote against them. It makes a huge difference who has seats in parliament – not just who the prime minister is, or which party is in government.

You can see here which parties actually voted for two bills that were brought to parliament:

“The Norwegian Parliament asks the government to take initiative towards and support international, economic sanctions against Israel.”

“The Norwegian Parliament asks the government to instruct the Central Bank of Norway to urgently divest the Oil Fund from companies that are blacklisted by the UN, and weapon companies that contribute to Israeli war crimes and the illegal occupation of Palestinian territories.”

Vote MDG, SV or Rødt if you want:

  • The Oil Fund to divest from occupation and genocide

  • An end to weapons trade with Israel

  • A ban on trade that contributes to the occupation

You can vote early from 11th August to 5th September in polling stations across the country, regardless of where your address is registered. Election day itself is on 8th September. On this day you can only vote in the municipality where you are registered as living on the National Population Register. Everyone with Norwegian citizenship can vote. All you need with you is a form of ID.

You can find addresses and opening times for polling stations across the country on valglokaler.no

One of the most important things you can do for Palestine right now is use your vote. Vote for Palestine!

Recommendations are based on how different parties have voted in the Norwegian Parliament on bills related to Palestine during the last two years. You can find more detail on every parliamentary party’s politics regarding Palestine on the Palestine Committee's voting guide.

If you don’t want to vote for SV, Rødt or MDG then it’s better to vote for the Labour Party (AP) or the Centre Party (SP) than to not vote at all. These parties are important to secure a left-wing majority. The Liberal Party (V) has voted for many of the bills in support of Palestine, but they would support the Conservative Party (H), the Christian Democratic Party (KrF) and the Progress Party (FrP) in á right-wing coalition. H, KrF and FrP all support Israel.

To do list:

☐ Vote for Palestine – vote Rødt, SV or MDG

☐ Speak to your friends and family about how important it is to vote, and about which parties are doing the most for Palestine

☐ Spread the message far and wide!
